U.S. Senate Photo Studio Internship
I have been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to intern for the U.S. Senate Photo Studio for the past two summers of 2018 and 2019. All the words in the world couldn’t capture how truly grateful I am for being given this life changing experience. In 2018, when I was offered the position for the first time, I was so surprised because when I applied it seemed like such an unattainable dream or fanciful hope. I went from taking photos of babies at a photo studio at my local mall to photographing Senators on Capitol Hill and was able to work somewhere that perfectly intertwined my passion for photography and politics. I have had the time of my life and this internship not only taught me how to be a better photographer but it taught me to thoroughly believe in myself and gave me a sense of confidence that can’t be defeated and that I am capable of anything I put my mind to. I was fortunate enough to return the following winter as a volunteer and luckily, they requested my return to the same position again in the summer of 2019.
This internship has given me some of my fondest memories, a few awkward experiences (that time Chris Evans offered to buy my lunch and i told him “thank you but I already have a packed lunch back in the office”, or that time I wasn’t looking and accidentally fell into a hole in the middle of a Senate hearing, or when we were trying to find Taylor Swift but instead ran into Jane Fonda). To be able to work for the U.S. senate and be able to pursue my passion for photography by photographing the Senators as they continued to make and change history was a privilege I’ll never forget. It’s not everyday that you have the opportunity to be in a room with Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Margaret Hassan, Dianne Feinstein, Ron Wyden, Chuck Schumer and the whole rest. I’m so incredibly thankful for the photo studio department for giving me this opportunity of a life time again and again. This experience will carry with me forever and I’ll be eternally grateful. the saddest goodbye but hopefully the greatest see you later.
